Biomethane: green molecules from the region

The renewable alternative to natural gas

Biomethane is a renewable gas produced by recovering organic waste through anaerobic digestion and upgrading processes. As it is molecularly equivalent to conventional natural gas, it can be transported, stored and injected into the existing gas infrastructure without the need to modify networks or end-use equipment.

Biorig, Solarig’s renewable gases division, develops, builds and operates biomethane production facilities that exclusively transform agricultural and livestock waste into renewable energy, biogenic CO₂ and certified organic fertilisers. This circular economy model helps reduce emissions, strengthen energy security and create new opportunities for the primary sector and industrial development in local communities.

Uses of biomethane

Application

Gas grid injection

Biomethane can be injected directly into the existing gas grid, progressively replacing fossil natural gas without the need to develop new energy infrastructure.

Application

Heavy-duty transport

Biomethane provides an immediate solution for reducing emissions from heavy-duty road transport and other mobility sectors where electrification faces greater limitations.

Application

Energy-intensive industry

Gas-intensive industries can integrate biomethane into their production processes, supporting their decarbonisation targets while continuing to use the same energy infrastructure.

A solution with an impact beyond energy

In addition to replacing fossil gas, biomethane brings together decarbonisation, energy security, the circular economy and rural development in a local production model rooted in the regions where it operates.

Energy

Reusing existing infrastructure

Biomethane has the same properties as conventional natural gas, enabling existing gas infrastructure to be used to accelerate the replacement of fossil fuels.

Industry

Green molecules for hard-to-electrify sectors

Biomethane provides a renewable solution for activities where electrification alone may not be sufficient, such as certain industrial processes and heavy-duty transport.

Local communities

Economic development in rural areas

Biomethane production creates new industrial opportunities linked to the primary sector, fostering investment, quality employment and economic activity in rural areas.

Circularity

A circular economy for agriculture and livestock farming

Recovering agricultural and livestock waste makes it possible to produce renewable energy, capture biogenic CO₂ and obtain certified organic fertilisers, creating value for local communities.

A distinctive agricultural and livestock model

Biorig produces biomethane exclusively from agricultural and livestock waste. This industrial model produces highly sustainable biomethane while also serving as an infrastructure for the energy recovery of rural waste.
