Organic fertilisers: circular economy in agriculture

Through Biorig, our renewable gases division, we transform agricultural and livestock feedstocks into renewable energy and certified organic fertilisers, closing the nutrient cycle and creating value for local communities.

Recovery of agricultural and livestock feedstocks

Biorig’s model is based exclusively on the recovery of locally sourced agricultural and livestock feedstocks, mainly slurry, manure, straw and crop residues from existing farms.

During biomethane production, these feedstocks undergo a controlled anaerobic digestion process that produces biogas and a stabilised organic material known as digestate.

At Biorig, the process does not end with energy production. The solid fraction of the digestate is treated and recovered to produce a certified fertiliser, recovering the nutrients contained in the feedstocks and enabling their return to agricultural soils.

Recovery of agricultural and livestock feedstocks

Through hygienisation, digestion and conditioning processes, Biorig transforms the solid fraction of the digestate into a PFC 3 organic soil improver in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2019/1009.

Certified organic fertiliser production process

A safe, controlled and traceable product

Hygienised

Heat treatment and the digestion process reduce the presence of pathogens in the feedstock, resulting in a product suitable for subsequent agricultural use.

Stabilised

Anaerobic digestion transforms organic matter under controlled conditions, minimising pollutant emissions and enabling safe handling and application.

Certified

The product produced by Biorig is certified under Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 as an EU PFC 3 organic soil improver, providing farmers with a clear regulatory framework for the application of this organic soil improver.

Traceable

Biorig tracks feedstocks from their origin through to the production and distribution of the fertiliser. This traceability enables its application to be coordinated according to the needs of each soil.

The circular economy for the primary sector

Circular economy model

The Biorig model connects livestock farmers and arable farmers within a single local ecosystem. Agricultural and livestock raw materials are collected from existing farms, processed at biomethane plants and returned to the local area in the form of certified organic fertiliser.
