Solarig connects the ‘Colón’ photovoltaic plant (Huelva) to the grid, which will supply clean energy to more than 10,000 homes

• The plant, located near the city of Huelva, with a peak power of 21.03 MWp, will prevent the emission of 19,200 tons of CO₂ and will supply clean energy to 10,300 homes. With this project, Solarig’s Engineering, Construction and Procurement division surpasses a portfolio of 1 GW of projects carried out in countries such as Spain, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom.
• The installation has included a bootcamp that has offered training to young people from the province of Huelva for their inclusion in the labor market through renewable energies, as well as other environmental sustainability measures such as vegetation screens or spaces set up for the passage of wildlife.

28 April 2025 – Solarig has connected to the grid the “Colón” photovoltaic plant in Huelva, where it has carried out the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) work for the British firm Foreshight. The facility has a peak power of 21.03 MWp and will inject 15.96 MW into the electricity system. With this development, Solarig surpasses a portfolio of 1 GW of projects built worldwide.

The facility will produce 33.65 GWh of renewable energy per year, enough to supply 10,300 homes, thanks to its 32,032 solar modules installed on single- and double-row trackers. These systems ensure an optimum inclination to capture the maximum solar irradiation and will enable the installation to avoid the emission of 19,200 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere each year. In addition to the EPC work, Solarig will carry out the Operation and Maintenance (O&M) of the asset.

The 33.6-hectare facility will be located near the city of Huelva, just a few kilometers from the site where Christopher Columbus prepared to set sail for America. “The site is ideal for the deployment of photovoltaic energy projects, as it is located in one of the Spanish provinces with the highest global horizontal solar irradiation, with 5.4 kWh per square meter,” explained Miguel Ángel Molano, Project Manager of Solarig’s ‘Colón’ plant.

Engineering and construction projects in Andalusia

In addition to the “Colón” plant, Solarig is carrying out the engineering and construction of the “Arco 8” project for Foresight, a 62 MWp facility in Huévar del Aljarafe and Sanlúcar la Mayor, which is currently under development.

“Colón” has been a pioneer in the training of local personnel for the construction of the plant. The facility has had a training plan -or bootcamp- in which young professionals, such as mechanics and electricians, were trained telematically to perform functions in the project’s works. This training program, which has helped young people from the province to develop their careers in the world of renewable energies, has been successfully completed, continuing to link the participants with other Solarig projects in the vicinity.

The Colón facility has vegetation screens, spaces for wildlife to pass around the fence and planting programs to ensure respect for the environment in which the asset is located.
