Italy: where we build the future of energy

Rome, 15 July 2026.- For more than 15 years, Solarig has been developing infrastructure for the energy transition in Italy. Through photovoltaic installations, battery energy storage systems —BESS— and renewable gases, we contribute to building a safer, more competitive and sustainable energy system.

In the country, we have developed projects, gained experience and consolidated a presence that today includes more than 100 professionals across Rome, Milan and Palermo. Above all, we continue to invest in Italy because we believe it has all the characteristics needed to play a central role in Europe’s energy transition.

For Solarig, Italy is one of our most important markets. It allows us to deploy the full industrial capabilities of the group: new project development, construction, operations and maintenance, energy storage systems and renewable gases.

A country set to accelerate

Italy is undergoing one of the most significant energy transformations in its recent history. At the end of 2025, the country reached approximately 82 GW of installed renewable energy capacity. To meet the targets set out in the National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan, it will need to reach 131 GW by 2030, adding around 49 GW of new capacity over the next five years. Growth is already underway: in 2025 alone, 7.2 GW of new renewable capacity was installed, driven mainly by solar photovoltaic energy, which accounted for more than 5.6 GW of new installations.

Energy storage systems are also taking on an increasingly important role. In just five years, installed capacity has grown from 720 MWh to almost 18 GWh, confirming that the flexibility of the electricity system will be key to integrating a higher share of renewable energy.

At the same time, Italy has become one of Europe’s most dynamic markets for Power Purchase Agreements —PPAs—, with around 1.8 GW of contracts signed in 2025, behind only Spain.

These figures reflect a transformation already underway and confirm Italy’s strategic role in the new European energy landscape.

Our commitment to Italy

Solarig develops, finances, builds and operates infrastructure for the energy transition. Globally, we manage more than 15 GW of renewable energy installations and have a portfolio of more than 20 GW across 12 countries, thanks to the work of more than 1,500 professionals.

In Italy, we have consolidated a stable presence over the years, with a portfolio of more than 2 GW across photovoltaic plants and BESS systems, as well as a team of more than 100 professionals.

Our strength lies in our ability to support the entire project lifecycle: from development and construction to asset operations. This approach enables us to make a tangible contribution to the growth of renewable energy and to strengthening the country’s energy security.

Infrastructure for energy security

The energy transition requires much more than installing new renewable capacity: it needs infrastructure capable of increasing the resilience of the energy system, integrating larger volumes of renewable energy and progressively reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels.

That is why we work on the development of photovoltaic plants, energy storage systems and new energy solutions that contribute to industrial competitiveness, security of supply and the decarbonisation of the economy.

From electricity to renewable gases: an integrated vision of the energy transition

We believe that decarbonisation cannot be addressed through a single technology. Alongside the growth of renewable energy and energy storage systems, renewable gases will play a key role in sectors where electrification is more complex, such as certain industries and transport.

That is why we have expanded our commitment through Biorig, Solarig’s division dedicated to renewable gases and biomethane production based on circular economy principles. Italy is now one of Europe’s most advanced biomethane markets, with more than 130 operational plants and expected investments of more than €1.3 billion by 2030.

Renewable gases and biomethane

Through Biorig, we aim to contribute to the development of a strategic value chain for the country, valorising organic waste, promoting circular economy models and strengthening energy independence through the production of dispatchable renewable energy.

The energy transition cannot be built around a single solution. It requires combining technologies, infrastructure and industrial expertise to respond to the real needs of the energy system.

Looking to the future, from Italy

We have been working in Italy for more than 15 years because we believe in the potential of this country and in the role it can play in Europe’s energy transition.

Today, we continue to invest in renewable energy, energy storage systems and renewable gases because we are convinced that transforming the energy system requires infrastructure, innovation and a long-term vision.

It is a journey that involves the entire energy sector, but also business competitiveness, security of supply and the ability to create value for local communities.

That is why Italy remains one of Solarig’s key priorities.
