Solarig completes the new Piombino photovoltaic plant (33.7 MWp) and strengthens its presence in Italy with more than 50 large-scale projects built

Piombino photovoltaic plant (Bocca di Cornia, Tuscany, Italy)
- The Piombino photovoltaic plant has an installed capacity of 33.7 MWp and will produce approximately 57,000 MWh/year, equivalent to the consumption of more than 21,000 households.
- With this project, Solarig reaches 52 projects built in Italy and consolidates its position among the leading operators in the sector, with a national portfolio under development exceeding 2 GW between photovoltaics and BESS
- The project integrates renewable energy generation, agricultural activity and advanced biodiversity protection measures
Rome, 12 March 2026 – Solarig has completed construction of the new Piombino photovoltaic plant in the Bocca di Cornia area (Tuscany, Italy), one of the most advanced photovoltaic projects in its portfolio in Italy. With this project, Solarig has now built 52 solar installations in Italy, its main market alongside Spain in the area of engineering and construction (EPC), where it has already commissioned more than 200 MWp. Globally, Solarig has a portfolio of completed projects exceeding 1.6 GW.
With an installed capacity of 33.7 MWp, the plant will produce around 57,000 MWh per year of renewable energy, avoiding the emission of approximately 28,500 tonnes of CO₂ per year. The energy generated will be sufficient to cover the consumption of more than 21,000 households.
Agnese Rocco, Solarig’s Country Manager for Italy, said: ‘With Piombino, we are further strengthening our presence in Italy and demonstrating that the energy transition can generate environmental, economic and social value for local areas. Our commitment to the country continues with a diversified portfolio that integrates photovoltaics, storage systems and, through Biorig, also biomethane, contributing to energy security and national industrial competitiveness.’
A plant integrated into the territory
The Piombino plant, built for N-Sun, managed by Alantra Solar, and developed in collaboration with the University of Tuscia and the University of Ferrara, covers more than 60 hectares. Its facilities are equipped with single-axis trackers and bifacial modules, and the site is a concrete example of the coexistence of energy production and agricultural activities.
The project also integrates specific measures for the protection of biodiversity, including infrastructure for birdlife and pollinating insects, confirming Solarig’s focus on environmental integration and the enhancement of the territory.
